Now she's put over the edge when her younger brother is taken by a sinister cult led by vampires. Her only ally is the hot-tempered vampire Eli Dupre, attracted to Riley's beauty and rare blood type. To save her brother from certain un-death, Riley faces dangers she's never dreamed of, ruthless bloodthirsty enemies, and an evil of endless hunger that wants to devour it all...

My Review:
I love this book... I lived in Savannah for about 13 years all totaled and believe me when I say it is a beautiful place but just as the book says tourist know nothing of the underground or underworld that is hidden in the shadows. Believe me when I say it is a very haunted city and full of the weird and otherworldly. If vampires and other urban legends do exist they all live and lurk there..... 5 croaks and then some.
After a month of down time, Grave Witch Alex Craft is ready to get back to solving murders by raising the dead. With her love life in turmoil, Alex is eager for the distractions of work. But when her new case forces her to overuse her magic, it might be the last mystery the Grave Witch ever gets to solve...

My Review:
I like the concept of a grave witch, how great would it be if someone could actually question the ghost of someone dead to find out what actually happened to them , of course only those spirits held earthbound due to foul play. I enjoyed reading this book and found it quite disturbing that the main character has a thing for Death.....creepy.... I give this book 4croaks
The local police suspect "monsters" are involved, and have called in Anita Blake and Edward, US Marshals who really know their monsters, to catch the killer.

But some monsters are very real. The Harlequin have been the bogeymen of the vampire world for more than a thousand years; they are a secret so dark that even to speak their name can earn you a death sentence. Now they are here in America, hunting weretigers, and human police.

The Harlequin serve the Mother of All Darkness, the first vampire. She was supposed to be dead, but only her body was destroyed. Now she needs a new one, and she's decided that Anita Blake's is the body she wants. Edward thinks the serial killings are a trap to lure Anita closer to the most dangerous vampire they've ever hunted. The vampires call Edward "Death," and Anita the "Executioner," but Mommy Darkest is coming to kill one, and possess the other, and she doesn't care how many others have to die along the way.

My Review:

In the past years I anticipated each book by Laurell K. Hamilton until it became nothing but porn and I do not read porn. My daughter told me this book is more like her writing was before she lost her mind and became a flesh peddler. This was a good book and it is so good to have Anita and Edward on a case together again. Ms. Hamilton is an amazing author and believe me I like hot and steamy but she had crossed that fine line , it is good to have her back. I look forward to more......
The bail bonds office has burned to the ground, and bodies are turning up in the empty construction lot. To make matters worse, Stephanie is working out of a motor home she shares with a dancing bear, and Joe Morelli's old world grandmother has declared a vendetta against her. My Review:
Oh my gosh I love these books, I think Janet Evanovich deserves some kind of metal for these.
Having no idea how many weeks have passed, she slowly realizes the horrifying truth: Ruthie has vanished.

And with her, nearly all of civilization.

Where once-lush hills carried cars and commerce, the roads today see only cannibalistic Beaters - people turned hungry for human flesh by a government experiment gone wrong.

In a broken, barren California, Cass will undergo a harrowing quest to get Ruthie back. Few people trust an outsider, let alone a woman who became a zombie and somehow turned back, but she finds help from an enigmatic outlaw, Smoke. Smoke is her savior, and her safety.

For the Beaters are out there.

And the humans grip at survival with their trigger fingers. Especially when they learn that she and Ruthie have become the most feared, and desired, of weapons in a brave new world..

My Review:
I have always enjoyed reading books that are written about the world after the apocalypse has taken place. As always man never changes, if you were good you remain good and if you were bad , well you get worse and then there is always those few fanatics who are smart enough to use anything to their advantage. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one. I give this one 4 croaks.
Welcome to a new America that is built on blood, sweat, and gears...

In steam age America, men, monsters, machines, and magic battle for the same scrap of earth and sky. In this chaos, bounty hunter Cedar Hunt rides, cursed by lycanthropy and carrying the guilt of his brother's death. Then he's offered hope that his brother may yet survive. All he has to do is find the Holder: a powerful device created by mad devisers-and now in the hands of an ancient Strange who was banished to walk this Earth.

In a land shaped by magic, steam, and iron, where the only things a man can count on are his guns, gears, and grit, Cedar will have to depend on all three if he's going to save his brother and reclaim his soul once and for all...
My Review:
I had never read a book by this author and was very pleased when I found I really enjoyed the book. I feel the author invented some really interesting characters and quite a different world for these characters to come to life in. I give this 4 croaks....
But will her most recent literary success be her last?
Life was a lot easier for Jane when she was just an unknown, undead bookstore owner in a sleepy hamlet in upstate New York. But now the world embraces her as Jane Fairfax, author of the bestselling novel Constance - and she's having a killer time trying to keep her true identity as the Jane Austen a secret. Even the ongoing lessons in How to Be a Vampire, taught by her former lover Lord Byron, don't seem to be helping much. Jane can barely focus on her boyfriend, Walter, while keeping him in the dark about her more sanguine tastes.

To make matters worse, Walter announces that his mother is coming for a visit - and she's expecting Jane to be Jewish. Add in a demanding new editor, a convention of romance readers in period costume, a Hollywood camera crew following Jane's every move, and the constant threat of a certain bloodsucking Brontë sister coming back to finish her off, and it's enough to make even the most well-mannered heroine go batty!

My Review:

I thought this was a real kick on Jane Austen and her friends it was very witty and quite enjoyable to read.....I look forward to the next book in the series. 31/2 croaks

The auburned-haired O'Connor women share a bond far deeper than their striking physical appearance. These courageous, high-spirited women all push against societal limits in this exciting historical, romantic novel that spans generations and countries from 13th-century Ireland to the excitement and mystery of 15th-century Prague.

It is said that as Cahira, daughter of the great Irish king Rory O'Connor, lay dying of a wound from a Norman blade, she beseeched God that others would follow her calling. To Kathleen O'Connor, Cahira's story was nothing more than a fable--until research divulged that the tale was true. As a stunned Kathleen realizes that she herself bears the mark of Cahira, she wonders if she is destined to continue the legacy.

To uncover the answers, Kathleen delves into the past to find the truth about the Heirs of Cahira O'Connor. It is a journey that carries her across generations, from the battlefields of 13th-century Ireland to the castles of 15th-century Prague. It is a past filled with peril, courage, vengeance, love, and sacrifice beyond anything she has ever known.

My Review:
I love books written of actual events and persons and this is such a book. Well written filled with religious fervor of the 14th century. This portrays Jan Hus a priest who spent his life offering the common people writings of the gospels so they could know the truth and not have to accept the teachings of the Catholic church which at the time had three men claiming to be pope and each one more corrupt than the next, common knowledge if researched, Pope John XXIII,Baldasarre Cossa, was convicted of 54 charges against him declared to be the mirror of infamy, an idolater of the flesh and a devil incarnate.
Jan Hus was burned alive but claimed no wrong to the end. His followers carried on his teachings. Thank God for freedom of religion. I really enjoyed this book and give it 5croaks.....

Stunned and humiliated, a desperate Mary Bliss, left behind with her seventeen-year-old daughter, Erin, and a mountain of debt, decides to salvage what's left of her life by telling one little bitty lie.
At first, Mary Bliss simply tells friends and family that Parker is out of town on a consulting job. Then the lies start to snowball, until Parker turns up dead. Or does he?

Mary Bliss's formerly staid existence careens into overdrive as she copes with an oversexed teenager, a mother-in-law with Ethel Merman delusions, and the sudden but delicious shock of finding herself pursued by two men: the next-door neighbor who's looking for a suitable second wife, and a dangerously attractive ex-cop who's looking for the truth about Parker McGowan.

When speaking of William Shakespeare, legends and rumors abound. But what is fiction? And wherein lies the truth? Some say his impressive body of work is too impressive. No single human being could have written all those plays, that multitude of sonnets. Others insist the reality of the historical plays, the pain of the tragedies, the joy of the comedies, the authenticity of characters are all too much for one man. He'd have to be superhuman to produce such genius. Well, here's the truth: Will was not only one of the greatest writers in the English language, he was also a necromancer. In exchange for a front row seat to history, Will supplied zombie armies. Sure, he's sorry now. Hey, he's refused to raise a shuffling, shambling corpse for years. And the talent - which comes only to a necromancer who's become a vampire - is extremely rare. So why are there so many zombies strolling around London? Will needs to find out. He has help from Katherine Dymond, the famed 'Dark Lady' of Sonnets 127-152. Katherine is Will's one and only love, the woman he can only be near in the dark.Together, Katherine and Will struggle against the reanimated corpses, even as they attempt to discover who has raised them, who is controlling them and what the zombies are after.

My Review:

All I can say is it made me laugh....3croaks....

The New York Times bestselling author of the Wicked Lovely series delivers her first novel for adults, a story about the living, the dead, and a curse that binds them.

Rebekkah Barrow never forgot the tender attention her grandmother, Maylene, bestowed upon the dead of Claysville, the town where Bek spent her adolescence. There wasn't a funeral that Maylene didn't attend, and at each Rebekkah watched as Maylene performed the same unusual ritual: three sips from a small silver flask followed by the words "Sleep well, and stay where I put you."

Now Maylene is dead and Bek must go back to the place--and the man--she left a decade ago. But what she soon discovers is that Maylene was murdered and that there was good reason for her odd traditions. It turns out that in placid Claysville, the worlds of the living and the dead are dangerously connected. Beneath the town lies a shadowy, lawless land ruled by the enigmatic Charles, aka Mr. D--a place from which the dead will return if their graves are not properly minded. Only the Graveminder, a Barrow woman, and the current Undertaker, Byron, can set things to right once the dead begin to walk.

My review:

This was a really good book full of twist and turns and prices paid for deals made . You enter a world unto itself where people who are born there can never leave and those few who do leave are destined to return. It goes to show things put into motion decades in the past still hold a meaning for some people in the present. I give this one 4 croaks.....

Fifteen years ago, Tim Sandlin concluded his acclaimed "GroVont" trilogy. But some characters call a writer back.

Managing the Virgin Birth Home for Unwed Mothers means the women in Sam Callahan's life keep his world interesting. But it's his family members that really take the cake. His daughter may be having a nervous breakdown, and his mother's just out of prison for attempting to poison the President's dog. And when they hit the road with a geriatric, an adoptive son trying to discover his parentage, and an enraged psychopath on their tails, all hell may break loose.
My Review:

This was a very quirky and at times quite funny book. It is definitely one of the most dysfunctional families in the universe. I enjoyed reading this and plan to go back and read Mr. Sandlins other books.... I give this 4croaks
With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover Eric Northman and his "child" Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot-which is much more complicated than she knows...
My Review:

This book is written by one of my favorite authors about one of my favorite characters. Sometimes I want to hug Sookie and sometimes I just want to smack her down, I guess that is why these books are so good because the characters become so real to you , you just can't wait to see what they get into next and Sookie is always into something and in this eleventh book of the series she does not let us down, once again she is up to her eyeballs in trouble . Werewolves, vampires, fairies, and things that go bump in the night but the cream of the crop is Bubba someone we all knew as the King of Rock and Roll..... Believe me when I say if you read these books you will be as addicted as I am. 5 Croaks without a doubt....
#1 New York Times bestselling author J.R. Ward's thrilling new novel in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

Payne, twin sister of Vishous, is cut from the same dark, seductive cloth as her brother. Imprisoned for eons by their mother, the Scribe Virgin, she finally frees herself-only to face a devastating injury. Manuel Manello, M.D., is drafted by the Brotherhood to save her as only he can-but when the human surgeon and the vampire warrior meet, their two worlds collide in the face of their undeniable passion. With so much working against them, can love prove stronger than the birthright and the biology that separates them?
Carrow House

By Brenda Sessoms

I gazed at the mansion on top of the hill with my heart pounding, wondering if she was still there , locked in that house waiting for me to rescue her.

I was fourteen years old the first time I went to Carrow House on a dare. I knocked on the door as my friends watched from the road. After knocking several times I started to walk away, when the door was suddenly jerked open. There stood a giant of a man all dressed in black. With a glance at my friends he said, " Good afternoon sir, Miss Carol is expecting you, won't you come in?" I was in shock, who the heck was Miss Carol and how the heck was she expecting me?

After Lerch shut the door , he said," follow me sir" and I did , hey in for a penny in for a pound or something stupid like that. We went up a long and I do mean long flight of stairs in what felt like a castle full of all kinda old stuff.

We finally came to a door and Lerch knocked, someone said " Come in" Lerch opened the door and I fell in love...There sat the most beautiful creature I had everrr seen. Long black hair, beautiful large green eyes and a body this fourteen year old had only dreamed of.

She said," Hello Lucas, I've been waiting a long time to meet you." OK it finally hit me," Dude how does this babe know your name and why has she been waiting for a long time for you?" Then my brain decided to ask," Are you gonna get out of here or is this an episode of the Twilight Zone ?"

Carol says she has dreams and she dreamed of me coming here quite a while back but didn't actually know when it would happen so when she saw us outside she told her butler to act as if I was expected.

She told me her parents had died and her butler and his wife took care of her and that because of a rare blood disorder she was not allowed to go to school with the rest of the kids. OK , sounds kinda New Moon to me. So I asked if she was a vampire and she replied ,"Would it make a difference?" I thought about it for a while and said,"No"

To be continued:

Evangeline Stone, a rogue bounty hunter, never asked for a world divided between darkness and light . . .

. . . or the power to die and live again in someone else's borrowed body. After a murder plot meant to take her out leaves an entire race of shapeshifters nearly extinct, Evy is gnawed by guilt. So when one of the few survivors of the slaughter enlists her aid, she feels duty-bound to help - even though protecting a frail, pregnant shifter is the last thing Evy needs, especially with the world going to hell around her.

Amid weres, Halfies, gremlins, vamps - and increasingly outgunned humans - a war for supremacy is brewing. With shifters demanding justice, her superiors desperate to control her, and an assassin on her trail, Evy discovers a horrifying conspiracy. And she may be the only person in the world who can stop it - unless, of course, her own side gets her first.

My Review:

I certainly would not want to come back from the dead if I had to inhabit another persons body and memories. It would be hard enough adjusting to the body let alone the persons memories. While doing this she has to fight super baddies and save the world, how much can one girl be expected to do.... It was and OK read so I give it 3croaks.....
Louise Lambert has always dreamed of movie starlets and exquisite gowns, and longs for the day when she can fill the closet of her normal suburban home with stylish treasures. But when she receives a mysterious invitation to a vintage fashion sale in the mail, her once painfully average life is magically transformed into a time-travel adventure.

Suddenly on board a luxurious cruise ship a hundred years ago, Louise relishes the glamour of this opulent age and slips into a life of secrets, drama, and decadence.

My Review:
This is a magical story of a girl who finds vintage clothing isn't simply about style and the person who designed the clothing but also of the person who wore that clothing and what took place in their life.

It is a peek into the early 1900's at a pivotal time in history with a different slant to the story and I quite enjoyed reading this tale. I'll give this one 4croaks. I hope to read more by this author.....

For centuries mystical creatures of all description were gathered into a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite.

Kendra and her brother, Seth, have no idea that their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven. Inside the gated woods, ancient laws keep relative order among greedy trolls, mischievous satyrs, plotting witches, spiteful imps, and jealous fairies. However, when the rules get broken -- Seth is a bit too curious and reckless for his own good -- powerful forces of evil are unleashed, and Kendra and her brother face the greatest challenge of their lives. To save their family, Fablehaven, and perhaps even the world, Kendra and Seth
My Review:
What a wonderful and whimsical tale this book is. This is a YA book however I think anyone would enjoy reading it. Made me feel like a kid again when I used to get so caught up in a book it became a part of me. I highly recommend this book and give it 4croaks.
While developing a new system to maintain Morganville's defenses, student Claire Danvers discovers a way to amplify vampire mental powers. Through this, she's able to re-establish the field around this vampire-infested Texas college town that protects it from outsiders.

But the new upgrades have an unexpected consequence: people inside the town begin to slowly forget who they are-even the vampires. Soon, the town's little memory problem has turned into a full-on epidemic. Now Claire needs to figure out a way to pull the plug on her experiment- before she forgets how to save Morganville...

My Review:

This is one of my favorite series so I have to try not to be biased...I will admit that the first half of the book was kind of hum drum the same old same old however Ms. Caine throws in a curve ball and things really get rockin. I enjoyed reading this book as I have all The Morganville Vampire tales. I give this 4croaks.....
